Join Ed Robb and Stephanie Lenkey Sunday, September 9, for a moderate hike to Square Top Lakes off of Guanella Pass. This is a beautiful 4.7 mile round trip tundra hike to two glacial lakes on the Square Top Lakes Trail (sometimes called South Park Trail). The trail begins at the west Guanella Pass parking lot and travels south above tree line on a level trail through tundra flowers and drops into a rich boggy area prior to rising gently across a south-facing slope. It then turns west to reach the lower of the two Square Top Lakes. Total elevation gain of about 950′.
The entire trail is entirely above tree line which allows you 360 degree views the entire hike. It could become windy, so come prepared. The trail has a slow and steady incline up toward the two small glacial lakes at the base of Square Top Mountain.
